A Message From Our Owners

As owners of Baltimore’s The Ivy Hotel and Magdalena Restaurant, we proudly affirm that Black Lives Matter. We stand with the multi-racial and multi-generational voices speaking out against a system wrought with racial injustices so deeply etched into our history and society. 

When we created The Ivy Hotel and Magdalena, we sought to make it a “Jewel” for Baltimore. A true treasure that would make the City of Baltimore and its residents proud to have in their backyard to enjoy themselves and also display to the rest of the world. We know that Talent and Diversity are key to making this Jewel shine brightly. These principles have been at the cornerstone of our values from when we founded an investment firm, Brown Capital Management, in Baltimore 37 years ago. 

Encased in the DNA of the Ivy Hotel and Magdalena is our commitment to; diversity in all areas and at all levels, delivering excellent performance, and the highest level of hospitality, cuisine and service to our clientele. The combination of these elements has allowed us to compete with the best and the brightest. We simply could not achieve this without our incredible team of talent that comes in all colors. 

During this sobering time in American history facing two pandemics, we affirm that Black Lives Matter. We pledge to use our platform on behalf of the entire Baltimore community to create unity. We MUST: 

-Demand equality, fairness and justice for our community.

-Promote awareness of inequalities, both visible and covert, to stop the cycle of ignorance and hatefulness.

-Educate and challenge ourselves and others to become more aware of roles we each play in perpetuating racial injustice.

-Create equity in the workplace and beyond, holding ourselves and our employees accountable every step of the way.

We are saddened to continue to witness how injustices have had such a devastating effect on people with black and brown skin, Indigenous peoples, and people of color. We stand against the violence, hatred, racism that continues at the hands of the police and of our fellow citizens. And we WILL do our part in developing an equal and just workplace for our employees. 

Baltimore’s rich history, varied neighborhoods, and unique communities make this city a diverse and vibrant city that we are proud to call our home.
