The Faces of The Ivy: A Decade of Warmth, Care, and Craft

Ten years ago, The Ivy Hotel opened its doors to Baltimore, and something truly special began. What was once a grand Mount Vernon mansion has been transformed into a luxurious haven for travelers and locals alike. But the heart of The Ivy has never been its hand-painted walls, its plush bedding, or its award-winning service. The true magic lies in its people.

Every guest who walks through our doors is greeted with a sense of warmth and familiarity, a quiet kind of hospitality that lingers long after checkout. And that feeling starts with Rob Arthur, our General Manager, who has been here since the very beginning. Rob helped oversee the construction of the property before a single guest had arrived. For the past decade, he has been the steady hand and kind face that defines the Ivy experience. Rob greets guests by name, remembers their stories, and makes sure every stay feels like coming home.

Then there’s Calvin, one of our treasured concierges, who is as beloved for his charm as he is for his impeccable wardrobe. With a background in tailoring, it’s no wonder he’s the best-dressed man in the room. Calvin brings wisdom, style, and thoughtful conversation to every guest interaction, always ready with a story, a recommendation, or simply a knowing smile.

Alongside him is James, another cornerstone of our concierge team and our in-house plant whisperer. Thanks to his careful tending, the conservatory is always lush and inviting, and every floral arrangement sings its unique melody. James has an innate understanding of both The Ivy and the city of Baltimore—he’s the type of person who makes guests feel instantly at ease, always putting their needs first.

If you’ve ever enjoyed breakfast or afternoon tea here, chances are Mr. Anthony Horsey has welcomed you. He’s been with us since day one, and his warm hospitality has made him a guest favorite. Mr. Horsey has a gift for making mornings feel just a bit brighter and tea time feel truly special.

Behind the scenes, Cindy Keating has quietly led our housekeeping team for the past ten years. A New Yorker who found her home here in Baltimore, Cindy is the reason our mansion always looks polished and pristine. She and her team are the unsung heroes of The Ivy; the engine that keeps everything running. These detail-keepers turn a stay into an experience.

And of course, we cannot celebrate our team without a nod to Chef Scott Bacon, Executive Chef at Magdalena. Chef Scott began as a line cook in our kitchen and rose through the ranks to take the helm. His bold, seasonal dishes reflect not only his culinary talent but also his deep understanding of Maryland’s bounty. Guests come for the flavor, but they return for the heart he pours into every plate.

These are just a few of the faces that define The Ivy. But every single person—from the spa therapists to the valets, from the admin to the line cooks—plays a vital role in the rhythm of our days. Together, we’ve created more than just a hotel. We’ve built a community, a family, and a place where guests feel truly seen and cared for.

Here’s to ten years of The Ivy and to the people who make it feel like magic.
